Online roulette myths to discover

Online roulette

Casino games may be developing at lightning speed, with innovative features and ever more advanced graphics, but some games are still essential. This is the case of online roulette, which is still played by millions of casino enthusiasts every year. This historic game has seen some myths develop throughout its existence, and we present them to you today.

1 House edge is the same

One of the first beliefs players have when they start playing roulette is that all variants of the game have the same player return rate. This is a big mistake as the house edge is indeed different between European, American, and French roulette. American Roulette, for example, is the least profitable for players because it is double zero brings the house edge to 5.26%.

2 The rules of the game are universal

Many online casino enthusiasts believe that roulette has similar rules regardless of the game being played. However, the reason there are variations of the game is that they offer different ways of playing and therefore different rules. For example, in French roulette, you get half your bet back if the ball lands on the zero square.

3 It is possible to predict the next number

This is probably the most persistent myth about the game. Some players believe that it is possible to predict the next number based on previous draws. This belief is based on spotting numbers that have not come up for a while and are therefore more likely to come up in the near future.
Trying to identify these ‘cold numbers’ is a waste of time, however, as the probability of picking the right number will always be 1/37 (on a single zero variant). Online roulette is and will remain a game of chance.

4 It is wise to increase your bets on winning streaks

Who hasn’t faced a winning streak and been tempted to increase their bets as long as the luck was there? It is indeed very tempting to increase your bets as it could double or even triple your bankroll in a matter of moments. However, keep in mind that the odds of winning remain the same and the next game could well be the one where you lose it all.

5 Beating the casino is possible in the long run

Roulette is not a game where the odds of winning are 50/50. The house edge exists and therefore it is impossible to beat the casino at its own game in the long run. If this advantage did not exist, casinos would go out of business immediately. But rest assured! By playing the most profitable types of bets and having luck on your side, it is still possible to win big at roulette!
